The Cowshed was the Leeds Road End of Huddersfield Town's ground, named for the barrel-shaped "Belfast" roof placed over the terrace in the 1920s, with one account dating it to 1929. It arrived during the club's greatest era: an FA Cup final in 1920, then three successive league titles from 1924 to 1926. Even so, the club kept its ground improvements modest. In 1931 it bought a 1,300-seat stand from Fleetwood for just £170.

The Cowshed was the smallest and most distinctive stand at Leeds Road. Its iron roof seemed permanently on the point of collapse, but on matchdays it was the beating heart of the ground. Fans recall that it was rarely full and yet deafening, with its own rituals, such as applauding the opposition goalkeeper as he took up position and passing children overhead to the front.

Town played their last match at Leeds Road in April 1994, a 2-1 win over Blackpool watched by 16,195. The club then crossed the River Colne to the Alfred McAlpine Stadium, and the old site became a retail park. The Cowshed name lived on, however. During the 2016-17 season, the South Stand at the John Smith's Stadium was renamed the Chadwick Lawrence Cowshed.
