The Boulevard was Hull FC's home for 107 years, from September 1895 until the club's move to the new Kingston Communications Stadium in January 2003. The club's first match there drew a crowd of 8,000, who watched Hull beat Liversedge in the opening season of what would become rugby league. The ground would go on to host Great Britain international matches and touring sides from Australia and New Zealand, including the first-ever Kiwi touring party in 1907.

Its finest hour, attendance-wise, came on 7th March 1936, when 28,798 people packed in for a Challenge Cup tie against Leeds — the largest crowd ever recorded there. Decades later, in 1982, 16,049 turned out to watch Hull take on the Australian "Invincibles," a side that went unbeaten across their entire tour; Hull's narrow 7–13 defeat was rated by the tourists as their toughest test.

The ground was never glamorous — modest floodlighting, basic stands, no covering on every side — but it endured through two world wars, promotion and relegation, triumph and heartbreak, becoming a fixture of West Hull life. Its closure in 2009 and demolition in 2010 ended an era; the final competitive match had been played there back in 2002, a fitting close to more than a century of history.
